Uganda: 70 senior police officers transferred

KAMPALA-  Seventy police officers who last month completed refresher courses at the  Command and Staff College in Bwebajja, Wakiso District  have been moved and deployed across different areas of operations.

In the redeployment message signed by Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP), Mr Moses Balimwoyo, who is  also the director human resource administration. The transferred officers include; two Senior Commissioners of Police (SCP), 11 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), 33 Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), 14 Superintendents of Police (SPs) and 10 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs).

Mr Asan Kasingye, police spokesman, said the officers have been redeployed because they have acquired the necessary skills for effective operations.

“When officers go for a course, they go there on transfer. Afterwards they have to be reappointed or assigned roles. They have acquired the necessary skills and we expect them to be efficient and effective in their duties,” Mr Kasingye said.

ACP James Ruhweza, the former Kampala Metropolitan (KMP) operation commander appointed Commander of Joint Security Operation (CJSO) at Entebbe International Airport while ACP Siraje Bakaleke has been appointed KMP South Regional Police Commander (RPC).

Ms Esther Kawango has been moved to the office of Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura who last month fired all his aides.

She Kawango will be in charge of Kigali International Conference Declaration Against Violence on Women and Girls.

SSP Mark Odong, the former commandant for Special Investigation Division (SID) that was in Jinja has been transferred to the Directorate of Research and Planning.

SSP Nickson Agasirwe who allegedly tortured suspected killers of former police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi has been dropped.

Mr Agasirwe allegedly tortured former Kamwenge mayor Godfrey Byamukama. Mr Byamukama is reportedly nursing wounds at one of Kampala hospitals.

SCP Lodovick Awita, the former commandant of security at Entebbe Airport has been appointed commandant of Very Important Persons Protection Unit (VIPPU) whereas SCP Stephen Tanui becomes the deputy commandant of the Field Force Unit (FFU).

ACP Sam Omala has been moved to the Directorate of Welfare and Production.

SSP Edgar Nyabongo, is the new Kidepo RPC.
