Kenya: All candidates to get chance to join Form One, Amina Mohamed says

All the 2018 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education candidates will get a chance to join secondary schools, Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has said.

Ms Mohamed, who together with Health Cabinet colleague Sicily Kariuki officiated the opening of a container of examination materials for schools in Kiambu Sub-County on Tuesday at 6am, said there will be Form One slots for the 1, 060, 759 candidates.

This, according to Ms Mohamed, is part of the government’s policy to guarantee a 100 percent transition from primary to secondary schools, a goal that has not been fully achieved in the past.

“The examination is just a rite of passage for the candidates and it doesn’t mean the end of life for them (based on their performance).

We want to ensure all those who will sit the examination this year will be admitted to secondary schools,” Ms Mohamed told journalists after presiding over the disbursement of the tests to head teachers.

Ms Mohamed said measures have also been put in place to ensure that all registered candidate sits the exams in a conducive environment, and this, she said includes deployment of security officers in insecurity-riddled areas such as North Eastern to avert any mayhem during the exam period.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i presided over the distribution of the examination materials in the region as part of the measures to ensure security is beefed up in volatile areas such as Mandera and Wajir counties.
