NAIROBI -Three Kenyan journalists who were among five people injured in a plane crash near Kenyan capital on Wednesday are in stable condition and are being treated a hospital in Nairobi, officials say.

The journalists Sam Ogina and Joseph Njane and videographer Mauritius Oduor who were flying in the light Cessna aircraft were heading to a political rally in Rift Valley province when the plane crashed shortly after it took off from Wilson airport.

The office of president Uhuru Kenyatta said the two crew members of the plane are also in stable condition.

In addition, opposition leader Raila Odinga also issued a statement on the accident and said: “This accident reminds us of the sacrifices journalists face daily to keep Kenyans informed, something we sometimes take for granted.”

As Kenyans are set to go to the polls on Aug. 8 to vote in a new government, politicians have been busy traveling across the East African country seeking votes, with journalists close behind.
