Grenade kills five children in Tanzania

At least five children have been killed and 25 others injured in an explosion at a primary school in Tanzania in Eastern Africa.

DAR ES SALAAM – Five children were on Wednesday morning  were killed by a grenade at a school in Northern Tanzania’s Kagera Region, near the Burundi border. Fifteen other children were injured in the blast.

“We regret the death of five children, there are 23 others injured,” said Adroniz Rurindoli, a local government official in the Ngara region, was quoted by AFP.

“The children were playing with this grenade which they thought was just a simple metallic object.

Rurindoli said the victims were all aged between seven and nine years old.

Last year, another grenade killed a family in a tragic incident in the Ihanda locality in Karagwe District, Kagera Region, Tanzania.

The horrible incident occurred on October 30, 2012.  A hand grenade exploded, killing five children instantly and maiming one surviving child. The explosion severely butchered.
