Rwanda’s Unemployment Rate Declines Despite Persistent Gender Disparities

NAIROBI — Rwanda witnessed a significant decline in its unemployment rate in the first
quarter of 2024, according to the latest Rwanda Labour Force Survey released by the
National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) in May.

The survey indicates that the unemployment rate fell by 4.3 percentage points compared to
the same period last year, bringing the rate down to 12.9%

This marks a return to pre-Covid-19 levels, closely aligning with the 13.1% rate observed
before the pandemic.
