Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has assured development partners that the 10th parliament is committed to the enactment of necessary electoral reforms for credible elections in 2021.
Kadaga revealed that she will write to Uganda’s attorney general on the need for quick introduction of electoral reforms, including all the recommendations from the Supreme Court 2016 electoral petition.
“I intend to address the attorney general on the matter because the supreme court ruling in the Amama Mbabazi case has timelines and if there is any delay, there will be a stampede,” said Kadaga
She said this Monday as she met Partners for Democracy and Good Governance Group. The group that has over 20 ambassadors, included the US ambassador Deborah Malac, Head of European Union mission in Uganda Kristian Schmidt and Nowergian ambassador to Uganda Susan Eckey.
Kadaga told ambassadors that parliament was also concerned about the pending bills in parliament such as Human rights enforcement bill 2015, sexual offenses bill 2015 and minimum wage bill 2015.
