Six foreigners arrested in Lamu for illegal stay

Six foreigners were arrested in Lamu county on Monday for being in the country illegally.

County commissioner Joseph Kanyiri said on Monday that most of them were from Tanga, Tanzania and Pemba, Mozambique.

Kanyiri warned residents against harbouring foreigners who are in Kenya illegally, saying many such cases had been reported in Lamu and Ndau island.

“We have established that some residents are living with foreigners who do not have proper documentation. Some have assisted them to get jobs here. We will arrest them,” he said at his office in the county.

Noting that illegal entries to Kenya were detrimental to security, Kanyiri said police were asked to conduct searches in homes and business premises.
