African Union to appoint team to oversee troop exit from Somalia

MOGADISHU – The African Union has resolved to form a team of experts including troop contributing countries to map out ways in which forces will exit Somalia by May 2018, officials said on Wednesday.

Military Operations Coordination Committee (MOCC) for the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has called for the reduction of AMISOM military personnel and the gradual hand over of security responsibilities to the Somali National Security Forces (SNSF).

In its meeting held on Tuesday in Ethiopia and attended by Chiefs of Defense Staff (CDS) and designated representatives of AMISOM police/troop contributing countries (Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria and Uganda) and Somalia as well as donor community, it was agreed that experts should work out options including details of the exit plan.

“The MOCC agreed to establish a team of experts including the troop contributing countries to work out options including the details of the exit plan for AMISOM to exit Somalia by May 31, 2018,” AMISOM said in a statement issued in Mogadishu.

The exit strategy formulated by the AU’s Peace and Security Council calls for the staggered withdrawal of 22,000 AMISOM troops.

The troops were deployed to Somalia in 2007 to defend the government against the Al-Qaeda-affiliated insurgent group Al-Shabaab.

AMISOM said the MOCC agreed on the way forward in terms of the initial reduction of military personnel by December 2017 as well as AMISOM’s new tasks.

The meeting reiterated the need for assured funding within the period recommended by the Joint Review for transition from AMISOM to Somali National Security Forces, availing the stated force enablers and multipliers and additional support.

Subject: African Union to appoint team to oversee troop exit from Somalia, by Xinhua, Sep 7, 2017

AFRICAN UNION taking action?!!! It does not bold well with its fifty-four (54) years history. What is so amazing is that the AU keeps on pretending that it is doing a service to the African people. Indeed, words are cheap, as the saying goes.

In the specific case of Somalia, the news item conveniently avoids to mention that similar forces have already been to Somalia and left without an iota of success. Against this background, what makes the charade so bold is that it forecasts that its mission will be accomplished “by May 2018”! It will not happen. Why? Keep on reading.

It is a well-known mode of international operation that the so-called missions and humanitarian aids are simply effusion for the concept of “scratch my back; I will scratch yours.” In the process, a few charlatan people representing the poor people of Africa will benefit – immensely. And the poor people of Africa will remain at the gutter of Life roaming around the Globe for crams of breads. It is OUR history. And the rest of the world will continue with their own benefits in collusion with African Dictators, without an iota of concern for the ordinary AFRICAN RACE. They know how to manipulate and emaciate Africa. CRY, My Beloved Africa.

As for the Somali people, they must be left to manage their own Life by themselves in their own way. Less than that, it will be a formidable proof for the above contention. Give the Somali people the space, without interference, for them to prove themselves that they are the masters of their own destiny, in their own way. The Somali people did not just ‘mushroomed yesterday’. They have been around for a long time. They know their history, their valor, and capability to lead their Life in their own way. If the self-named “advanced” countries can administrate their Life in their own way can’t the Somali do likewise i.e. managing their own affairs? If the question is naïve and out of reality, then it is tantamount to saying that the AFRICAN RACE in general is NOT capable of self-made advancement. THIS IS ATROCIOUS, but we know that the world is not free from racial antagonism — as, in fact, we see it daily on various media. What is also doubly sad is that African Dictators, consciously or unknowingly, are the colluding part to such an outrageous attitude. HISTORY shall remember them….
