Outrage over footage of police officer beating man

The National Police Service is investigating a video in which a police officer is captured beating a man.

In the video, a police officer is seen using lethal force on an unarmed man lying prostrate on the ground.

Enda chini! (Go lower!)”, the police officer is heard shouting at the victim as he steps on his neck. The unidentified officer is seen kicking the subdued man on the head several times in the one-minute footage.

It is not clear what the victim’s offence was but the officer’s instructions to the suspect suggest he was already under arrest.

The incident is said to have happened on Londiani Road, Industrial Area in Nairobi.

Some social media users were outraged and termed the officer’s actions as inhuman.

The NPS responded early Friday saying it is reviewing the video and will take action against the officer.

“Our attention has been drawn to a video clip circulating in the social media of a Police officer allegedly assaulting an individual. We do not approve of it. We are reviewing the video clip to verify its authenticity and shall take stern action against the officer once proven,” the NPS said on Twitter.
