Search for security guard who shot lover dead intensifies

MASAKA- A search for a security guard who allegedly shot dead his lover in an apparent domestic brawl has intensified.

The suspected killer who was attached to Tiger Security Group Limited, a private security firm, allegedly killed Jenifer Amonding. The deceased was also a security guard employed by Ascar Security Group.

The incident occurred at Kizungu, a posh Masaka Town suburb on Wednesday.

It is alleged that the suspect raided his lover’s house and shot her over unknown reasons.

According to Southern Regional Police spokesperson, Mr Lameck Kigozi, they received a phone call from one of Amonding’s neighbours after the attack.

He said the suspect disappeared after committing the offence.

Mr Kigozi said their search has not yielded fruits since Wednesday.

“We are already in touch with the suspect’s employers. We are sure that he will soon be brought to book,” Mr Kigozi said.

He said the suspect took off with the gun which he was using to guard BAM Fuel Station in Nakayimba, near Nyendo Town.

Some residents asked government to intervene and screen people who are employed by private security companies.

“We wonder what kind of training do these people [security guards] get .They are fond of misusing guns,” Mr Joseph Ssenzonga, one of the residents said.

This is the second case of a security guard misusing a gun in less than a week.

A similar case was reported in Rakai District on Monday where a security guard attached to Star Act Security Group shot Mr Jimmy Mutyaba, boda -boda cyclist, after a misunderstanding with a fuel pump attendant.

According to police, when the cyclist went to fuel at a filling station in Rakai Town, he claimed to have been given less fuel than he had paid for by the pump attendant.

A bitter verbal exchange ensued between the pump attendant and the cyclist.

The pump attendant reportedly called for help from the security guard who allegedly responded by shooting the cyclist.

In May , residents of Kajjansi Zone A  on the Kampala –Entebbe highway were left in shock after a private security guard deployed at Uganda Clays Ltd shot a colleague dead before turning the gun on himself.
