Four dead, 8 injured in Kampala-Gulu road accident

Four people have been killed and 8 injured in an accident at Matugga town along Kampala-Gulu highway.

The dead have been identified as Rodgers Ssendegeya a resident of Nakasongola, Tadeo Kakembo of Kiryandongo district, Nabukenya Robinah from Luwero and another unidentified person.

The accident which occurred on Friday involved a taxi registration number UBD 237E and trailer number UAL 355S which occurred near Gasline Petrol Station at Matugga town.

The taxi was heading to Kampala and the trailer which was loaded with crates of beers was parked on top of the hill.

Luke Owoyesigire the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson says that three people died instantly when the trailer which was parked lost control and rolled backwards and rammed into the taxi they were occupying. The fourth person died moments after the accident due to loss of blood.

Owoyesigire said the trailer had been parked after it developed a mechanical problem.

The injured have been rushed to Mulago Hospital for medication.
