Kenya: Not guilty, Maribe and fiance Irungu say over Monica murder

Television journalist Jacque Maribe and her fiancé Joseph Irungu alias ‘Jowie’ have on Monday pleaded not guilty to murder in the death of businesswoman Monica Kimani.

The two will spend two more nights in custody after High Court Judge Jessy Lesiit ordered that they return to court on Wednesday, October 17, when they will be given a date for a hearing of their bail application.

Ms Maribe’s lawyer, Katwa Kigen, had requested the court to accelerate the mention since the suspects have been in custody for long

Mr Irungu, main suspect in the case, was arrested on September 24 while his fiancée was nabbed five days later.

Ms Kimani was killed on the night of September 19, just hours after arriving in Nairobi from South Sudan.

A third suspect in the case, Mr Brian Kassaine, was freed by the court last week but ordered to be reporting regularly to the police.
