Uganda: Journalist forced to delete Kayihura pictures at military court

KAMPALA- Security operatives Monday blocked journalists from covering former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Gen Kale Kayihura as he reported to the General Court Martial in Makindye to honour one of his routine bail terms.

Gen Kayihura is required to report to the chairman of the court on the first Monday of every month.

He arrived at the Makindye-based court at about 10am and was aided by the security officials to pass through the rear gate that is usually used by the judges instead of the main gate which is used by the general public.

He arrived at the court in a Ministry of Defence vehicle with an escort car.

One photo journalist who tried to stealthily photograph Gen Kayihura was manhandled and forced to erase the pictures he had shot by the security operatives at the court.

Daily Monitor understands that prosecution is still investigating the charges that the former IGP is facing.

The other bail condition that embattled general has to honour is not to travel beyond Waksio District without the clearance of the court.

He faces two offences of failure to protect war materials while he was the IGP, some of which ended up in the hands of a notorious Boda Boda  2010 gang that was headed by jailed Abdullah Kitatta.

He is also accused of aiding the kidnap of Rwandans from Uganda to Rwanda.

He denies the charges.
