Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula has said that people who are flouting the law must face consequences.
In a statement on Monday, Wetang’ula said the country needs peace to tackle challenges.
“The flagrant disregard for the law and disrespect for Kenyans will be expressed in the last General election is a threat to our Nation. Those flouting the law must face the consequences. The country needs peace to deal with our challenges,” Wetangula said.
His sentiments come amid Azimio’s mass action in Nairobi and other parts of the country.
The demonstrations saw protesters engage with police as they were dispersed using teargas.
A section of legislators allied to the opposition was arrested for leading protests in Nairobi.
Some of those arrested include; Senate Minority leader Stewart Madzayo, National Assembly minority leader Opiyo Wandayi and Amina Mnyazi MP Malindi.
They had on Monday stormed the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
Soon after their entrance, they were dismissed by a police officer who hurled tear gas canisters at them.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka called on the government to release leaders who were arrested.
All the leaders who have been arrested not in line with the constitution and taken to Kiambu road should be released immediately,” he said.
Senator James Orengo and Homa Bay MP George Kaluma are seeking the release of arrested Azimio la Umoja leaders.
Orengo was in the company of a team of lawyers including Danstan Omari and others.
A photo seen on social media shows the arrested leaders in talks with several police officers.
