Uganda:Besigye’s lawyer sues government after police blocked their meeting

Mr Ladislaus Rwakafuzi, a human rights advocate has sued the Attorney General seeking compensation for loss of business due to the actions of police officers who blocked his client, Dr Kizza Besigye from accessing his offices at Uganda House along Kampala road.
According to court documents, copies of which were seen by this reporter, Mr Rwakafuzi is now seeking court’s declaration and orders against the violation of right to practice one’s profession and to carry on a lawful occupation, trade or business.
The lawyer states that on the November 16, 2016, he had an appointment with Dr Besigye for consultations and further instructions but no sooner had he (Besigye) arrived at Uganda House, than police commanded by Geoffrey Kaheebwa blocked him from entering the parking area and accessing his office .
Mr Rwakafuzi has attached photographic evidence of police patrol vehicles and several officers preventing Dr Besigye from accessing his office and later towing his car to Kira road police station.
As a result, the AG has been summoned and ordered to file his defence with 15 days from the date of service of summons, according to the December 15 order signed by the High Court deputy registrar.
