Uganda: Senior police commanders on trial over spokesman’s murder association

KAMPALA – Senior police commanders have this Friday morning been escorted to the Court Martial to face prosecution, All East Africa reports.

The suspects are associated with the shooting to death Police Spokes Person and Director of Special Operations Andrew Felix Kaweesi on March 17, 2017.

They include former Commandant of Police Special Operations, SSP NicksonAgasirwe and SCP Joel Aguma – head of the law enforcement’s Professional Standards Unit (PSU).

CMI boss Col Abel kanduho (in military uniform) with Kampala police boss, Frank Mwesigwa (on phone) and Police pathologist Dr Byaruhanga (in suit) who carried out the investigations to have the suspects arrested.

Other suspects are D/AIP BenonAtwebembeire, D/SGT Abe Tumukunde (Police Flying Squad commander, Kampala Metropolitan) Asp James Magada who worked under Aguma in the Crime Intelligence docket and a one Faisal Katende and D/CPL AmonKwarisima.

Rene Rutagungira, a Rwandan national and BahatiMugengaPacifique alia IlungaMonga were also presented before court chaired by Lt Gen Andrew Gutti.

Some of the charges include kidnappings.

The officers were arrested this week and interrogated by military intelligence officers.

They have since been in detention on the directives of president Museveni.Un confirmed reports also indicate that the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Gen. Yoweri Museveni has also ordered UPDF to surround the home of the Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura. However, UPDF Spokes Person on his tweeter handle claims that the reports are not true while Police Spokes Person AsanKasingye remains silent on the matter.
