7 PSU Officers Transferred; Kayihura to Hand over Tomorrow

Reshuffles have been made in the Professional Standard Unit of police.

A Wednesday statement issued by PSU and signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police John William Okalany shows that 7 officers have been transferred.

According to the statement, Deputy Assistant Superintendent of Police John Odwogo has been transferred from PSU Headquarters in Bukoto and he is now regional PSU officer for Aswa region.

Deputy ASP Stephens Waako has been appointed PSU Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander, according to the statement.

The statement also shows that Deputy ASP Joseph Nambafu is now a regional PSU officer Elgon region while deputy ASP David Turyasingura will be in Greater Masaka for the same role.

Deputy ASPs Francis Sserwanga and Peter Wasswa have been transferred to PSU Headquarters and they were from Greater Masaka and Kigezi region respectively.

Deputy ASP Gerald Habima is now the regional PSU officer Kira-Jinja after being transferred from PSU headquarters.

Started in 2007, PSU was created to keep an eye on the Police family, the Police officers and those who work with the Force. Its mandate is to receive public complaints against individuals who are caught on the wrong side of the law.

But of recent the unit had been seen as a failed section of police since many police officers have been allegedly committing crimes without being subjected to punishmemt.

The most recent was the case of Siraj Bakaleke, a former Regional Police Commander for Kampala Metropolitan Police South who was accused of extorting about Shs1.4 billion from three south Korean gold dealers, but was left in office.

Gen Kayihura to hand over office

It has confirmed that the sacked inspector General of police Gen kale Kayihura will officially hand over office on Thursday morning.

Speculations on when the former police boss will hand over tools of operation of the office to the new team were cleared Wednesday evening by the police spokesperson Emilian Kayima.

In a brief statement, Kayima revealed that the former police chief will officially hand to the incoming inspector Gen. Okoth Martin Ochola on Thursday at exactly 10am.

The function in which Kayihura will hand over his report and tools of office is slated to take place at the police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala.

General Kayihura was relieved of his duties on fourth this month by President Museveni.

The former police boss was at the helm of the force for twelve years and at the time of his sacking, he had worked for one year of the three-year contract.
